Lady Dr. Doom // Marvel

Lady Dr. Doom // Marvel

Completed: March 2013
Worn to: WonderCon 2013

Inspiration

I wanted to take a moment to talk about the most ridiculous costume that I have ever made: Lady Dr. Doom! The inspiration for this costume is 100% from the people who follow me on FB! I posted a progress pic of my Silver Fox cloak and asked my followers who they thought the cloak was for. I got a ton of ‘Fem-Dr. Doom’ comments and…well, the idea basically infected my brain and I knew I just HAD to make this costume.  Back in March/April I decided that Lady Dr. Doom would be a fun costume to make for WonderCon. BUT I didn’t realize as I was making the costume just how ridiculous it would turn out. Maybe it’s that I made Dr. Doom’s mask as accurate as possible to the illustrations (and thus the mask looks super masculine) or maybe it’s just the Dr. Doom is a profoundly weird character to choose to turn into a sexy lady. In any case, my photoshoot with BlizzardTerrak Photography has become one of my all-time favorite shoots ever, because we were both cracking up with laughter the entire time at the sheer ridiculousness of my costume. To add to the insanity, I started throwing out some classic pin-up girl poses to really highlight just how silly the costume was making me feel.

Or, in BlizzardTerrak’s words: “Weirdest cosplay I ever saw? Nope. Weirdest mixture of themes in design and character. YUP!”

And, on a side note, this costume isn’t 100% complete to my liking – I still feel like there are a lot of pieces I want to add/improve. So…you might get to see a new and improved Lady Dr. Doom in the future. Because I am stupid

Construction

This was my first major project using WORBLA, and overall I am pretty happy with the results (though the body armor isn’t completely finished). The mask was made with a mix of worbla, paper clay (to sculpt the base shape), steel mesh, and steel rivets.
